This is the commercial for the vintage twist n turn Barbie Doll. When she first came out, mattel offered a trade in, if girls turned in their #1 Ponytail Barbie, they would get a Twist N Turn Barbie.

My mom bought this doll when she was a kid in 1967 and stored it in perfect condiction in her drawer so that she could have it for the rest of her life? but her little sister got her hands on it and destroyed it. She cut the hair, she drew on it, she broke it. When my mom found out she just the doll in the trash.

This doll came out when I was in 5th grade. I had an older Barbie with bubble-cut hair, molded eyelashes and unbendable legs. My mother forbade me? from trading it in for the new model AND she wouldn’t allow me to buy one or even ask for it as a gift. When playing with “friends”, they pretended my doll was a mother of one of theirs so when their dolls went to a party, my doll had to stay home and wait for them. The girls shut me out because my doll was uncool. I still remember how that hurt.

I wonder how many little girls traded in their dolls and are now kicking themselves for? doing so b/c the trade ins are worth thousands of dollard today.

I also collect these old Barbies. They were made WAY before I was born but they are much cooler than the ones they make now. At least the clothes the? dolls wore were clothes you could actually see a woman wearing. Now the dolls all wear hot pink ruffles and heels.
